"21st CENTURY BRONX"

The New York Transit System is renovating almost all train stations in The Bronx
with elevators just like this one, to facilitate train access to physically challenged passengers. This elevator
at the Simpson Street Station, carries passengers to the IRT numbers 2 and 5 trains heading downtown.

It was a very cloudy day when I took this photo. This is the corner of Westchester
Avenue and Southern Boulevard looking down Southern Boulevard. A few people can be seen walking
in the sidewalks and the steel pillars of the elevated tracks of the IRT numbers 2 and 5 trains can also be seen. -

This white building on Southern Boulevard between E.163rd Street and Westchester Avenue
was the old Spooner Theater. A Duane Reade Pharmacy was here for many years and they relocated
down the block to a bigger space. - Photo by Mike Marquez

An apartment building stands proud on the corner of E. 163rd Street and Southern Boulevard.
On the right of the photo we see a bus dispatcher on duty. On the left we can see the brick facade of the Hunts
Point Avenue IRT number 6 train station. - Photo by Mike Marquez

This is the entrance of the Hunts Point Avenue IRT number 6 train station. Beyond
it, we can see again the corner of E. 163rd Street and Southern Boulevard. - Photo

A man waits patiently by the curb for the traffic light to turn green to cross the
intersection of Bruckner Boulevard and Hunts Point Avenue. Bruckner Expressway can be seen overhead.

This is the West Farms / E. Tremont Avenue Station. The IRT numbers 2 and
5 trains stop here. No one seems to use this escalator. That's because it was a quiet Sunday
morning when I took this photo but normally on a typical weekday, this station is packed with passengers.
